We are a group of professional and amateur traders founded by principals of a quantitative research firm which develops strategy and periodicity diverse programs and risk modeling tools. Our own internal process involves using this webspace as a collective resource for sharing both discretionary thoughts during intraday sessions and as a sort of virtual think tank for our ongoing quant research. A big part of that research has consistently shown that the ‘Holy Grail’ of the purely mechanical, single market intraday trading strategy that produces near linear returns without significant ongoing adaptation DOES NOT exist. As such we have found that for most traders pursuing single market intraday strategies, an adaptive, risk management focused discretionary approach is likely to bear the most fruit. Ironic, given that rigid, purely mechanical systems are what the vast majority of retail traders (including us at one time) seem to be in relentless pursuit of.

In the spring of 2010 we created a private, member only forum behind the blog devoted to our ongoing discussions related to discretionary analysis of market structure, price action and order flow to like minded retail traders as a sort of experiment. Since we have always found the format in which we use this space privately to flesh out ideas to be so beneficial, we wondered if it might be even more fruitful to increase the sheer numbers of those participating in this process and with that, DTG as it exists today was born. By any measure, the experiment has been almost unfathomably successful for us in terms of its role in keeping us sharp in whatever discretionary or quantitative work we happen to be engaged in at the time. Sharing our experiences and interacting with the greater numbers continues to spark new ideas for all of us, making our little experiment a huge win on all fronts in our book. Don’t panic long time members, the DTG Member Forum isn’t going anywhere and continues to thrive. The daily ES Trade Plan Worksheet and ES Intraday Swinging/Scalping Example posts will continue to be made in the forum, just not duplicated out here on the blog site as protected posts. If you are a DTG member that for whatever reason still relied on the website for these daily posts, you’ll now need to just log into the DTG Member Forum for them, along with all the additional educational content and discussions, etc. If you are not yet a member, you can still join here.

The DTG blog is at the end of its lifecycle, literally and technically.  When we first created the DTG website blog back in 2010, it was based on the latest website technology. As time moved on, website technology evolved and advanced.  Unfortunately, some of the software components used by the DTG website are no longer supported by their developers. These components fail when using updated technologies, which has forced us not to update the DTG website technology for several years. The lack of updates has finally caught up with us.  While the HTML of the DTG website works fine, the content management system used to make the daily posts deals with server errors that cause timeouts that make posting a difficult and time-consuming process. What used to take a few minutes each morning is now taking a frustrating few hours, significantly eating into our morning trading time. So with that, we’ve made the decision to discontinue daily free posting “out front” here on the DTG blog site.

As many are already aware, we are not, nor have we EVER been website developers or internet marketers of trading education. We are traders and trading can be a lonely profession. We created the DTG Member Forum as a controlled environment free of the negativity, spamming, and noise of public trading forums with a theme of ongoing mentorship for the aspiring. It’s a place where like-minded people work seriously on improving their trading and model development skills. After more than 15 years in existence the forum STILL keeps us sharp, as we consider the perspectives and challenges of our members while trying to distill our many decades of collective knowledge into usable advice.
