RG initiated an impromptu discussion topic today in the chat room spurred by ongoing discussions in the forums related to what is commonly referred to as ‘higher timeframe biasing’ and the historical statistical analysis provided by and discussed by some of the members. Some additional related questions from the membership were also addressed.

RG did impromptu talk today in the chat room today to propose consideration of a risk overlay topic rarely discussed in the forum. Specifically, the discussion was aimed at the potential viability of another ‘layer’ of conditional trade management adaptation related to modification of target objectives based on how accurate the entry ended up being once the trade has had a chance to develop. Some additional related questions from the membership were also addressed.

09/27/2016 Live Chat Room Event: Trading From LVNs vs. HVNs

RG did another impromptu talk today in the live chat  room to offer his opinion in response to posts about the logic of trading from low volume areas (LVNs) versus high volume areas (HVNs).  Using today’s price action, RG pointed out scenarios where he would and would not consider trading pullbacks and fade trades using volume density as a guide.  He also touches on directional bias for pullback trading and the need to understand that your bias can change as the day unfolds.

FatFish has become the go-to guy for capturing RG’s spontaneous trade-room monologues.   So thanks once again to FatFish for displaying and recording his desktop and providing us with this video.

In the chat room today, RG decided to do an impromptu live talk to discuss some recent questions on the forum regarding risk modeling and capital use efficiencies. The differences between reported asset manager performance and proprietary trading program performance metrics are discussed in detail. Though the bulk of the event is focused on this topic, there is also a short section at the beginning covering recent discussions about data discrepancies reflected in MarketDelta Footprint Bar Statistics.

Again, a special thanks to FatFish for displaying and recording his desktop which made this video possible.

Trader Talk: Discovery Trading Group and Sharpe Trade

Videos  Comments Off on Trader Talk: Discovery Trading Group and Sharpe Trade
Aug 302016

Dan, or SharpeDan as he is known in our forum is a DTG member and principle at the trading education site Sharpe Trade.  Its rare for DTG to be directly or even indirectly promoting any trading educators out there as in our view so many are touting what most pros know to be an impossible and unrealistic path to success. But in this case we found synergies which we thought had great educational value for our membership. Sharpe trade is currently focused on trading stocks, ETFs, and Forex in time-frames much longer than DTG.  Where a typical DTG futures trade might be seconds or minutes or hours, a Sharpe Trade equities position may last days, months, or even years.  So Dan brings a different perspective to the DTG membership, and in this video its interesting to hear Dan’s take on the value he sees in DTG. Members will also likely find it interesting that while the strategic focus of the two entities are seemingly vastly different, the message is basically the same and success will driven by the exact same core principles.

NJ’s Live ES Trade (June 14, 2016)

Videos  Comments Off on NJ’s Live ES Trade (June 14, 2016)
Jun 142016

As a background, back in Feb 2016 I had written a blog post in a member’s journal about how I’ve evolved in my approach to trading. Another member added a summary of the post to her journal for reference which got me thinking that maybe I could record a video of a trade to give an example of the concepts from the forum discussions. The result is the unedited video below. This is a real and live trade I took in one of my Interactive Brokers accounts. The audio was done in real-time. To keep things simple, I traded 1 ES contract which removes decisions about scaling in and out (and how ‘big’ or ‘small’ I trade). Also, I used (or stumbled around with) the native IB Booktrader so there’s no focus on 3rd party execution software (e.g. Jigsaw or Ninja or MD Trader).

Market context… End of the trading day, the day before a FOMC announcement. Price had already worked it’s ATR(5) and has been ranging and quiet. Range days rarely turn into trend days without some change in trader expectations. Given the last employment report, the Fed is unlikely to be hawkish, and thus unlikely to trigger a bearish selloff. If the bears can retest the LOD which aligns with the low frame, it’s a decent place to take a shot at a trade if there’s enough time left in the day…

It turned out to be a pretty good example trade because there was target and stop management, a “blind” entry using a default OCO target and stop, order flow reading, price action, reading intraday support and resistance, using the VWAP, using the day frame, and using trendlines; all wrapped up in a 15 minute trade… Also, notice how I’m always thinking about what the market might do and what I’ll do in response. Enjoy. 🙂
