I have to admit, I’ve been a slow adapter to new communications technologies that have been improving rapidly over the last several years. My internet connections and land phone lines have been rock solid for years and have provided more than enough bandwidth for real-time data feeds and internet based day-trading. However recently as DTG has produced and recorded 60 to 90 minute private member webinars, the video size files are much larger than any files I’ve had to upload through the internet. A single webinar video file takes 3 to 4 hours to upload. Thus I felt compelled to improve my internet connection and decided to move from copper line based DSL to AT&T’s fiber based network. I thought this afternoon, being a Friday on the last trading day of the month would be the best day and time to schedule the install for the change. The thing I didn’t know was that AT&T needed to switch the network routing from it’s copper system to it’s fiber system before the afternoon installation. To make a long story short, I lost my internet connection around 10am EST this morning and became stuck at my location waiting on the various technicians to arrive and install their components. I was unable to trade; all I could do is watch the markets (not) move on CNBC and Bloomberg.
Now that I’m back online, I walked through the day’s charts looking for a trade. I could force a trade or two, but truthfully and like yesterday, there was little order flow to create trades within today’s low volatility. As I posted in chat this morning, I thought the day would be low volatility unless some unexpected news about the financial cliff came to light. The markets couldn’t find a good reason to pick a direction, thus for the second day in a row, I do not have an example trade to post.
